Scrap Cutting Machine Buying Guide

This guide is for buyers comparing a bar scrap cutting machine from Ahmedabad. It uses only ranges we publish. Not a price list.

1. Start with the scrap, not the name

Bar scrap (TMT, MS) belongs on bar scrap machine (up to 50mm, 5-10 HP) or vertical machine (up to 60mm, 7.5-15 HP). Sheet and structural scrap often needs alligator shear (30-100 Ton, blade 400-1200mm) — different jaw layout, not just bigger bar shear.

2. Match capacity to bar dia

Published ranges:

• Bar scrap: up to 50mm bar dia, 5-10 HP, industrial hydraulic power pack
• Vertical: up to 60mm, 7.5-15 HP, vertical structure
• Horizontal: up to 40mm, 10-20 HP, continuous production
• Alligator: 30-100 Ton, blade 400-1200mm, 7.5-25 HP

3. Motor & power

Confirm 415V/3-phase on site before finalizing HP. 5-10 HP (bar) vs 7.5-15 HP (vertical) vs 10-20 HP (horizontal) — not interchangeable.

4. When to add alligator

If scrap is pipes, channels, angles or heavy structural — alligator shear cuts cleanly without feeding long stock into bar shear. Many yards run both: alligator for reduction, bar/vertical for charge.
